Before being renamed in 1959, Kaga Shinmeigu was known as Yamashita Shrine, and during the Edo period, it was called Shinmeigu. It is a former prefectural shrine dedicated to the deity Amaterasu. The current worship hall was rebuilt in 1824, and Hakusan-gu Shrine is enshrined on the mountain to the south. According to historical records, Shinmeigu and Hakusan-gu have long been the guardians of Daishoji, with Shinmeigu originally located in the castle town of Yamada-cho.
