Seisonkaku Villa

A representative building of the Kaga Hyakumangoku Maeda family. It was built in Kenrokuen Garden in 1863 as a retirement villa for Shinryu-in, the wife of the 12th lord. A unique feature is its combination of two architectural styles: the dignified *Daimyo Shoin-zukuri* and the artistic *Sukiya-style Shoin-zukuri*. With its elegant appearance filled with colorful bird and flower designs, both the building and the garden are designated Important Cultural Properties. The area in front of the main gate, lined with Namako walls, forms a lush cultural zone with museums and galleries.
