MapAbout 1,300 years ago, during the reign of Emperor Shōmu, the monk Gyōki discovered the hot springs here, guided by a sacred bird on his way to Mt. Hakusan. The temple houses a wooden Eleven-Headed Kannon statue from the early Heian period and a Fudō Myōō statue from the Kamakura period. Behind the precinct stands a memorial tower for the monk Myōkaku, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Around November, the temple grounds are renowned for beautiful autumn foliage, making it a popular fall spot in Yamashiro Onsen.
