Kazue-machi Chaya District
kazue-machi chaya gai

The Kazue-machi Chaya District is considered one of Kanazawa's three chaya (teahouse) districts, along with Higashi Chaya District and Nishi Chaya District. The townscape, with its narrow alleys and continuous rows of *senbon-gōshi* (latticework), retains the unique atmosphere of Kanazawa and has been selected as a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. It was named Kazue-machi because the residence of Tomita Kazue was located here during the Edo period. It often appears in the works of the literary master Kyōka Izumi, whose memorial museum is located nearby.
