Mitsukejima (Gunkanjima)
みつけじま / ぐんかんじま

A 28 m-high monolith rising from the sea, Mitsukejima is one of Noto’s iconic vistas. Its battleship-like shape gives it the nickname “Gunkanjima.” Legend says Kōbō Daishi “discovered” it while crossing from Sado. At low tide you can step across stones toward the island, adding a sense of adventure. The shore is a “Lovers’ Sanctuary” called “Enmusubi Beach,” with a bell for couples. Lit up at night and magical at sunrise, it’s also a spot for swimming and camping in summer. TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence was awarded in 2017 and 2018.
